We need to start looking for sponsor companies now. If you have suggestions about a company that may be willing to donate money, goods/services (for the raffle), or goods (water/snacks for post-walk) please post them as a comment or let me know. For example, we will ask Adobe, where Ikue used to work for a sponsorship. I started the process of completing an online grant application for Clif Bar, a local health bar company. Ikue also suggested Mimi's Cafe (where she used to frequent) and AMC theatres came up as a possibility (for gift certificates as raffle prizes). Here are some other links for grant applications:

Here is a list of sponsors for an Alzheimer's walk in L.A. The companies seem to be all over the board.
Any local companies, companies doing business related to health/human service, medical research, disability products, or companies where friends/family work could be potential sponsors. As a sponsor, the company would get free advertising by their logo being posted on our flyers, website, and t-shirts. If anybody has experience with getting sponsorships or wants to help with this part of the planning, I welcome volunteers.
If anybody has time, please do a google search to find other similar charity walks and see who they had as sponsor companies.
I am working on a template letter to potential sponsor companies that can be customized and distributed - I will post the template here when it is ready (later this week).

How to sponsor this event:
1. Write a check payable to "NAF". Include "SF Walk" in the memo section of the check.
2. Mail the check to the National Ataxia Foundation at, 2600 Fernbrook Lane N Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447
OR
Go to NAF's website to make a donation online. Write "SF Walk" in the 'Designations-other' box so that your donation counts towards our local support group's total.
All contributions are tax deductible and go to a great cause!
What is Ataxia?
Ataxia consists of problems with coordination because parts of the nervous system that control movement and balance are affected. Ataxia may affect the fingers, hands, arms, legs, body, speech, and eye movements. There are many types of ataxias. It can be hereditary or sporadic. Ataxia can also be a symptom of head injury, stroke, MS, alcoholism, etc. For more about ataxia, click here for NAF's website
My mother has Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3). This is a hereditary degenerative disease, which means that I am also at risk.
My primary goal for this event (click here for flyer) is to raise awareness about ataxia. Hopefully, the walk will also generate money for more research about ataxia. Last, but not least, the goal is to HAVE FUN!
Task list (need help)
- 1. Get more items donated for raffle.
- 2. Assign tasks for volunteers on event day.
- 3. Finalize event day logistics (registration table, signs, raffle, MC, route maps, etc)
